In Irish Tree Lore mythology, the Hazel tree covers the period August 5th – September 1st. In ancient times, the Hazel was considered to be one of the noblest trees and full of wisdom. It was a crime to fell a Hazel. There was a well at the source of the River Boyne around which it is said, the nine Hazels of wisdom grew. A salmon swimming there leapt to eat nine Hazels which fell from the trees and thus became endowed with the gift of knowledge and Wisdom.
